Paper 1 Learner Response Mock

Total = (30) = B

WWW: A superb Section A ! so impressive and excellent knowledge and quotation focus

EBI: The challenge now is maintain that level across the whole paper. Reflect one what the key factor is : time, revision, different key concepts etc

2) Read the mark scheme for this exam carefully, paying particular attention to the 'indicative content' for each question. This is some of the best analysis you can do as it gives you an idea of what the exam board is expecting. For your LR blogpost, identify ONE point you could have added for the first three questions in Section A:
Q1 (unseen text) additional point/theory: The typography on the advert is all sans serif, offering connotations of a more youthful, modern brand. The fact the campaign encourages the audience to make this product their “first Swiss watch” reinforces the feel this is aimed at slightly younger professional men

perhaps at the start of a lucrative career.

Q2 (unseen text and CSP) additional point/theory/CSP reference: Hegemonic masculinity – advert suggests patriarchal dominance is still in place despite changes in gender representation over recent years.

Q3 (music video) additional point/theory/CSP reference: Lil Nas X came out as gay in 2019 which arguably adds an ideological element – this can be found in aspect of mise-en-scene such as costume (Lil Nas X’s costume changes and Billy Ray Cyrus’s pink suit could both be read as a subversion of traditional masculinity and western stereotypes).

3) Now focus on Section B. Section B began with two questions testing your knowledge of industry terminology. Make sure you know the answers to these (get the answers from the mark scheme if you have to):
Benefits of vertical integration: Greater control of the production process, lower costs and higher profits.

Definition and benefits of diversification: Diversification is when a media company branches out into a different area of the media industries. One benefit is that it's possible to attract a wider audience.

4) The Section B CSP focus was on Blinded By The Light. The impact of new technology on distribution was a weaker area in most answers. Pick out three points from the mark scheme that you could have included in your answer here.
New technology has reduced the costs of film production, distribution and marketing due to the rise in digital editing, YouTube and social media.

New streaming sites such as Netflix and Amazon Prime are increasingly influential players in the film industry despite their relative youth compared to giants of the entertainment industry such as Disney.

Streaming has changed the way audiences watch films with audiences increasingly watching movies using streaming sites on smaller devices (such as phones and tablets) meaning cinema exhibition is struggling to retain its relevance and influence in the industry.

5) Finally, identify three things you plan to revise before your next Media assessment.

 Genuinely this is the best paper I've sat and done for media, I enjoyed my time with the paper and that's visible via the B grade, however it isn't all sunshines and rainbows. One of the reasons I feel I wasn't getting MORE marks could be due to the fact I write really fast, even with proof reading 5+ times, I think it's the excitement I feel after finishing a good paper that allows me to slip up. After receiving my paper today and looking through it, although I am extremely proud of myself, I do understand and see where I've slipped up (e.g. not explaining theorists properly, being to vague, just almost saying the wrong things etc.). After looking through my paper, I feel like looking through Advertising and Marketing or just Industries in general would benefit me greatly, as I almost ended up getting zero marks for a question based off of diversity? Overall I've done well and I think that looking through my theorists and terminology will help me elevate past these grades I've received in the mock. BUT I AM STILL REALLY PROUD OF MYSELF.
